The effect of concurrent training on apelin, interleukin-6, C-reactive protein levels in middle-aged sedentary men
Authors
Abstract:
Abstract Background and Aim: Among the wide range of adipokines, aplein has recently been considered by researchers due to association with body composition indices such as fat percentage and inflammatory markers. The aim of this study, was to investigate the effect of concurrent training (aerobic and strength) on apelin, interleukin-6, C-reactive protein levels in middle-aged sedentary obese men. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 30 men aged between 48 to 60 years, with mean height 174.43±7.51 cm, mean weight 93/53±5.26 kg and mean BMI 30.88±0.81 kg/m2 were randomly allocated to the resistance training (n=15), and control groups (n=15). The training program consists of 12 weeks concurrent endurance and strength training. Blood samples were collected for measurements of apelin, interleukin-6, C-reactive protein and insulin resistance index before and after 12 weeks. Result: Research findings showed that the concurrent training could significantly reduce Body Mass Index (p=0.002), insulin resistance index (p=0.001), inflammatory indices of interleukin-6 (p=0.001), C-reactive protein (p=0.023) and apelin (p=0.001) and significantly increase maximal oxygen consumption (p=0.002) and one repetition maximum (p=0.001). Conclusion: Generally, it seems that decreasing body fat, improving insulin resistance and inflammatory indices following 12 weeks of concurrent training has been effective in reducing aplein levels.

Effects of 12 weeks concurrent aerobic and resistance training on serum vaspin and C-reactive protein levels in obese middle-aged men
Introduction: Vaspin is a new adipokine which is a member of serine protease inhibitor family and might improve insulin sensitivity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of concurrent training (aerobic and resistance) on vaspin, and C-reactive protein levels in middle-aged sedentary obese men. Materials and Methods: 20 sedentary obese men (age: 50.7 ± 2.1 years, the percent of bo...

Background : The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of combined training program on C-reactive protein (CRP) serum and interleukin-6 (IL-6) plasma concentrations in sedentary men. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, twenty sedentary men (23±2 years) volunteers (with no history of regular exercise program, weight deviation more than 2 kg, special disease and...

Introduction: Aging is associated with elevated levels of some proinflammatory factors and exercise is a non-invasive intervention to improve immune function among older adults .The aim of the study was to compare resistance training effects on interlukine-6 (IL-6) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in older-aged women. Methods: The study was quasi-experimental and for...

The Effect of Resistance Training with Genistein on Interleukin-6 and C- Reactive Protein in Induced Diabetic Rats
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Resistance Training (RT) with Genistein on Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: 64 induced diabetic rats into 8 groups were investigated with experimental study: first week control, last week control, RT, 15 mg/kg Genistein consumption, resistance exercise with 15 mg/kg Genis...
